Procedure Templates help you standardize the way your team writes procedures. Instead of starting from scratch each time, you can take a draft you already like, save it as a template, and then create new procedures that begin with that same content copied into a fresh draft.
The new procedure is a normal draft after creation, and can be edited, reviewed, and released in the same way you would any other procedure.
Saving a draft as a template
Templates are created from drafts. When you are in a draft of any procedure, you will see a Save as Template option in the top toolbar (near the Review controls).
Click Save as Template to open the Save as Template modal. From here, you’ll provide the core identifying information for the template:
Unique ID: the identifier that will be used for the template
Name: the template name users will recognize when selecting it later
Version: the template version associated with this save
Select Save as Template to finish. The draft is converted into a template procedure based on the content exactly as it exists at the time you save.
Creating a new procedure from a template
Once templates exist, you can create new procedures from them directly from the procedures list.
Open the New Procedure menu and select Use Template.
This opens the Create from Template modal, where you’ll pick the template you want and define the details of the new procedure draft.
Start by using Select Template to search and choose from existing templates. Templates appear sorted by Project and Subproject. You may also see usage counts (for example, “Used 2 times”), which can help you quickly identify well-established templates.
After selecting a template, complete the rest of the modal as desired:
Type shows what you’re creating (for example, a Procedure) - Set by Template
Owner sets who owns the new procedure.
Unique Id and Name define the identity of the new procedure being created.
Project assigns the procedure to a project. - Defaults to Template project by can be changed.
Add Tag lets you apply tags at creation time.
Default View sets the initial view (List view or Single Card view)
Just like the standard Create Procedure modal, you can specify some of the procedure settings.
Start Procedure and End Procedure role selectors
Release Process selection (for example, a Major/Minor uprevision process)
Additional toggles such as Enable Automation, Require Strict Signoff, Allow Skip Step, Allow Step Repeat, Allow Suggest Edits, and Enable Enhanced Review
When everything is set, select Create Procedure. Epsilon3 creates a new draft that is prefilled with the selected template’s contents. From there, you can edit the draft and send it to review as normal.
Viewing Templates
Templates can be viewed from the Templates tab of the Procedure Library.
Similar to the other tabs in the library, this page can also be filtered by projects, tags, or types and/or grouped by project or type. Use the 3 dot menu in the top right to Save Default View.
Click on the Template Name to navigate to the Template Overview screen where you can view the Template, Use it (to start a new procedure draft of the template), move into Edit, Delete, or Archive. You can also view previous versions in the Version History, compare changes, and see all other meta data associated.
When viewing a template, the left-side details panel clearly indicates that the item is a Template, and the page includes a Use Template button. Templates do not show a Run button, since templates are not meant to be executed directly.
Edit mode of the template can be accessed via the 3 dot menu in the Template Overview or from the pencil icon in the Library.
The Template can also be Used straight from the Template Library screen by clicking the Use button.
Where Used
Clicking the number in the Where Used column will bring up a modal with the Where Used details for the template.
Click on the status (Draft, Released) to view the procedures.
