Temporary Install / Remove (TIR) Logs

Learn how to configure and use Temporary Install / Remove (TIR) Logs to track temporary installations, removals, and installation history for parts, tools, and assemblies.

Temporary Install / Remove (TIR) Logs track parts, tools, and other items temporarily installed on a parent part or assembly. Each installation receives a unique TIR number and remains traceable until it is resolved, even when that happens in a later procedure run. Temporary installations do not change the permanent As-Built Bill of Materials (BOM) or part genealogy.

Add and configure the content block

Open a Builds procedure in Edit mode. In the appropriate step, click Add Content and select Temporary Install / Remove from the Parts category.

Use Parent Item for Temporary Installation to select the part or assembly that will receive the temporary hardware. Leave this field blank to let the operator select the parent item during the run. Operators select a Tracking ID to identify its specific serial number or lot; parent items cannot have a Scrap status.

Under Installations Allowed, select All parts and tools to allow operators to record any part, tool, or free-text Other item. Select parts and tools instead to restrict the available installations and removals to a predefined set.

In Select parts and tools mode, use Add part, Add tool, or Add other to add entries.

For each row, select Install and/or Remove; enter the quantity for installations. Each part or tool can appear only once, and at least one row is required. During a run, authored installation quantities are fixed, and only matching items are offered for removal.

Enable Require photo on install and/or Require photo on removal independently to collect supporting images.

Include in Summary controls whether TIR activity appears in the run summary, printed record, and exports. The content block also supports a Required setting through its block settings, which affects step signoff.

Record an installation during a run

In the Temporary Install / Remove block, confirm the parent item and Tracking ID.

Under Temporary Installations, click Add, choose Part, Tool, or Other, and select Install. In a restricted block, the available entries are taken from the procedure configuration.

Select the inventory item or tool instance being installed, then complete the quantity, unit weight, description, and any required photos.

Inventory parts must be In Inventory to be selected. Quantities can be drawn from multiple lots, and serialized parts and tools support up to 100 units. Tool serial numbers cannot have two active temporary installations.

Click Record install to add the entry to the step. The actual TIR record and inventory changes are committed when the step is signed off, not when Record install is clicked.

Each committed installation receives a workspace-wide identifier such as TIR-00015. Inventory quantities are deducted from stock, and serialized items are marked Temporarily Installed while installed.

Resolve an existing installation

Under Resolve Installations, review the open TIRs for the selected parent item. The list includes installations from previous steps and previous runs. Choose an entry, enter the applicable quantity, add any description and required photos, and select its outcome:

Removed — The item was removed and its inventory quantity is returned to stock.

Lost — The item is not returned to stock; a serialized item is changed to Scrap. An issue is only created automatically if an administrator has configured a corresponding rule.

Already removed — The item was removed previously and its quantity is returned to stock.

Waived — The item is approved to remain in place and continues to count as installed.

Not resolved — The installation remains open for later action.

Click Record resolution and sign off the step to commit the outcome. An installation cannot be recorded and resolved in the same step, because the resolution list only includes installations previously saved at signoff. Use separate steps when installing and removing an item during the same run.

Review temporary installation history

Open the parent item in Builds > Inventory and review its details, including the Execution area. In Temporary installations, select Currently installed to see hardware still associated with the item, or All activity to review the complete history and resolution states. Records include TIR identifiers, installed items, quantities, and linked activity. Parent and installed items also receive activity or run-history references.

TIR installs and removals are also reflected in weight logging. When Include in Summary is enabled, run summaries, prints, and exports include TIR Installed and TIR Resolved entries.

Important behavior and limitations

Temporary installations are separate from permanent assembly changes and do not appear in the As-Built BOM, as-built exports, or genealogy. Use Add Inventory or Update Components for permanent changes.

Open installations do not block run completion and can remain associated with a parent item until a later run resolves them. Waived items remain counted as installed.

A signed-off step containing TIR records cannot be revoked through the usual run interface, and there is no user-facing TIR void action, so verify the information before signoff.

If the block is Required or strict signoff applies, incomplete entries, missing required photos, or no recorded activity prevent signoff. Otherwise, the operator receives a confirmation prompt.
